34. The two skills of the course are argument and rhetorical analysis.   One bit of advice that is central to impart to students is the tenet “acknowledge complexity.” This is relevant in arguments (. take time to address reasonable counter-arguments) and rhetorical analysis (. a letter can be both threatening and conciliatory — check out Banneker’s letter to Jefferson from the 2010 test). Passing the AP English Language and Composition exam is never going to be easy.
